What the data shows

Toronto Public Health recorded 2,458 inspections of 2,326 food premises from October 1–26, 2026. 2,300 passed, 156 received a conditional pass (6%) and 2 were closed.

In the 158 inspections that ended in a conditional pass or a closure, the most cited problem category was cleaning and upkeep of rooms, non-food surfaces and equipment (103 inspections), followed by pest control (73), employee hygiene and handwashing (65).

A conditional pass means the premises may stay open but must fix significant problems before a re-inspection, usually within 24 to 48 hours. A closure order stays in place until the premises passes a re-inspection, so a premises closed this month may already have reopened; DineSafe shows its current status.

How we counted: One inspection is one premises on one inspection date, with the status DineSafe gives it (Pass, Conditional Pass or Closed). An inspection is counted once under each infraction category it cites, so category counts add up to more than the number of inspections. Category names are DineSafe's deficiency categories in plain words. Dates from October 1–26, 2026. The figures are also available as data.json.
